BALWYN Residence

BALWYN Residence

Structural engineering (Balwyn, VIC 3103)
For this Balwyn residential project, Coveil provided structural design for a high-end dwelling featuring a raft slab foundation, lightweight timber framing, structural steel framing and steel portal frames to achieve open-plan spans. The works included reinforced concrete suspended slab elements and a basement structure requiring considered detailing for stiffness, crack control and construction sequencing. We also designed the basement and associated pile retention system, providing a safe and buildable retaining solution to suit excavation constraints and boundary conditions. Structural design was developed in accordance with the NCC referenced standards including AS/NZS 1170 actions, AS 3600 (concrete), AS 4100 (steel) and AS 1684/AS 1720 where timber framing design inputs applied.

Civil engineering / stormwater (Balwyn – OSD + pump pit + rain garden)
Coveil completed a stormwater design tailored to Balwyn council/authority expectations, including on-site detention via concrete pit storage, a pump pit arrangement where gravity discharge was constrained, and a rainwater garden concept to support water-sensitive outcomes. We coordinated roof drainage, pits and pipe grades, overflow provisions and legal point of discharge considerations, using ARR design methodologies and aligning with OSD guideline principles commonly applied across Melbourne councils.
