ST JAMES CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

Structural engineering (education facility – Melbourne, VIC)
Coveil Consulting Engineers delivered structural engineering services for the St James Catholic School works, providing pragmatic design documentation suited to an active school environment and staged construction sequencing. Our scope included structural steel framing design, portal frame elements and supporting subfloor framing, along with concrete strip footing systems designed to suit the site conditions and constructability. Where lightweight framing was required, we developed cold-formed/light gauge steel solutions to deliver an efficient, buildable outcome with clear detailing for shop drawings, fabrication and on-site installation. Structural design actions and member capacities were assessed in line with NCC referenced structural standards (including AS/NZS 1170 for actions, AS 4100 for steel and relevant footing design standards).

Civil engineering / stormwater (education facility – detention + reuse)
For the civil stormwater component, we designed a compliant on-site stormwater management solution that addressed local authority requirements for peak flow control and site discharge. This included on-site detention (OSD) storage sizing, pipe/pit layouts and integration of underground rainwater storage for reuse, supporting an economical, low-maintenance solution suitable for an education setting. Our approach aligns with contemporary Australian stormwater hydrology guidance using ARR methodologies and authority submission expectations, with practical coordination around service clashes and staged works.
